One for the Lerins in Summer? The pizza catermaran does a roaring trade so there could be a market. The smaller beer/ice cream boats would be bloody annoyed.

Here is the text

Carrefour has launched the world’s first “sail thru” supermarket off the coast of Dubai.

Bites and More by the Shore stocks more than 300 items, including dry foods and personal care products, in a custom built “aqua pod” anchored at sea.

Jet Skis and tenders pick up deliveries at the window while larger boats, such as superyachts, can order from their boats and have their groceries delivered by a skiff within 45 minutes.

Carrefour
The floating supermarket is open six days a week
The superyacht is also serves those relaxing on Dubai’s beaches, including Kite beach, Jumeirah public beach and Al Sufouh beach, who can order food via the company’s app.

The supermarket is open six days a week from 10am to 6am and has been designed and created by Aquatic Architects Design Studio in Dubai.

The eco-friendly pod is powered by rechargeable batteries and is equipped with a seabin, which sucks up floating debris from the sea into its holding tank.

Chief operating officer for Carrefour UAE Miguel Povedano said: “With Dubai’s stunning coastline being enjoyed by millions of people each year, it is a natural next step to cater to our customers with relevant products in a locale where they are not currently being served.”

It’s hideous.
Might blend in Dubai but not the Cote d Azur .
There’s already plenty of SY support anyhow .In our marina we have Cap10 , they deliver bespoke orders anything in the Bay of Cannes , refrigerated vans and del ribs passing all the time .
Also the SY crews like nip off for play about with the limo ( get away from them :)) , or combine a principal pick up / drop off on shore .
La Nap is heavily used as the PVT air port is nearby .So in the season regular no of SY anchored just outside our marina for these duties .

One early June morning I was up like a lark and took the dog for a walk .6.30 am ish .
A SY limo docked on the visitors berth I helped with the lines - off stepped a stressed out chief in his uniform .
He asked me where the nearest mini super market / convenience store was
I was going that way so I said “ follow me mate “
Conversation went along the lines of “there’s a little madam on board , daddies girl “ and the they all have finished off all the avocados .
Apparently that s all she ate was advocados and because he had run out and she was still asleep so he thought he,s do a shore run to re stock .
2 mins later at the shop they only had two .
“ I,ll be fired and this is my 1st season on a yacht said the chef “

Mugsey here volunteered to run him in the car to the local Carrefour hyper market .
So we jumped in the Bentley and came back with about 20 Kg , he cleaned them out a whole trolley full stacked with boxes of em .
It’s about 7.30 am now as we load up the limo with the help of the two deckhands .

I asked what time do they get up ? He said about 8 , so job saved :)

L,

I agree it will never win a design competition, however I can see some merit in the idea. I don't think it will make a shread of difference to the SY market on the CdZ as there is no way it could hold the range required, but what it would do is hold more than the ice cream boats.

Watching the SY tenders load and unload in BsM is definitely a sport and some of comings and goings are 'interesting'!

I need to pm Roy a link to this. He could run an Off Licence from his boat at Penmon Point by Puffin Island catering to all the tourists doing Rib rides to see the budgies and shite-hawks. He'd love that job. :encouragement:

what a dreadful idea...

everyone knows all you need is an ice cream boat, always nice to see in Poole...
