Hi

I want to put some rubbing patches on my main sail to protect it where it rubs on the spreaders when downwind sailing. I have been advised you can now get kevlar patches for this. Anybody heard of this or indeed where you can purchase such things. I have found kevlar tape on the internet but it seems to be for repairs.

Any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted

Sail patches

Self adhesive dacron patches as used by sailmakers are readily available, easy to apply, (and to replace when worn) adhere well, durable, flexible, and should not distort sail shape, but perhaps to plain looking for a Kevlar sail.

Depending on your sail and how aggressive and the size of the chafing is, for the worse cases, it's possible to get the same sort material that inflatable dinghies are made from.

Get some sticky back dacron, cut it larger than the patch, and stick it down on the sail, then do the same on the other side.

Or if it's just light chafing, then the Dacron on it's own could be enough
