Does anyone know where I can get adhesive sail numbers for a yacht that is 40 feet (is there a specific size?). Taking part in Round the island and need to get my sail number aloft after getting issued one
Any help would be great

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Welcome to wibblywobbly_sail_Nos.co /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have made letters for my own dodgers & stiched them on. Not that hard I'll agree, but takes quite a bit of time to get it right.

1/ choose a font & make paper templates, I tried templates of several styles to make sure I was happy.
2/ cut the letters out of suitable material, I used white vinyl blind material because I had some offcuts donated.
3/ Mark background with guidelines using french chalk (borrowed from SWMBO)
4/ pin or stick letters/ numbers to background & check carefully that they are straight & level
5/ sew on using zig-zag stitch & confirm each letter is correct. Remove & resew if necessary.
6/ put on boat & be proud of result - or throw in bin if not proud.

I got mine for the RTIR from
http://www.sailcloth.co.uk/index.htm
(Tab: Sail making / Sail Numbers)

They were a bit fiddly to line up straight , definitely a 2 person job. Easy enough to peel off and stick on. So far I have not had to stitch them on and they are still there 3months later however reading the post above I might do some stitching later this year

They don't need to be aloft, I put mine on the stern dodgers last year and it's easier and legal, just make them up and clip them on.
I think the figures were about 35 cms high, but as long as they can be seen they're happy.
I can Email a pic if need be.

15" were fitted by Hood on my 33' yacht. It will be the same for yours. The ebay ones are over twice the price of getting them straight from the sailcloth supplier sugested on one of your replies.

Yes I got my RTI sail nos from Kayospruce as well....

I attached them one calm afternoon whilst at anchor in Newtown creek....I took down a piece of board to press the sail onto, about 1 mtr x 500mm and did the job over the boom.

Dead easy with a bit of preparation and looks perfect.
