Can anyone explain to me the logic behind the one letter suffix on a sail number.

Issued by RORC suffix R. Fine understand that

Issued by Clycle Clubs suffix C, as above

Issued by RYA suffix Y,M,N,T,A or L. Erm I'm perplexed

This is a reply I gave when this question was last asked on the forum...

I recently applied to the RYA for one. I asked how they came up with the suffix ("L" in my case) and got this email reply from the RYA

"It is the series of numbers we are currently issuing. We started with Y, then T and are now on L. RORC issue R series numbers. M numbers are issued to Multihulls. N numbers are issued to One-Designs such as the Sonata, 707 and Prima 38"
