Sail number prefix changed when updating owner details with RYA

As stated above the RORC will also provide you with a sail number for a fee (around £50 IIRC). Three digit numbers are reserved for members only.

For those not interested in serious racing then it is more usuall to the type/class 'emblem' with along with the series number on the mainsail.

I think RORC charged about £20 to add our boat to their register, and we did so because the sail maker added sail numbers for free, so we thought we may as well future proof ourselves for racing possibilities. Probably no more expensive to register than pay for the decals later, and certainly less hassle.

RORC, unlike the RYA, allow you to select the number from a list at no extra cost. So we went for 2526 for the simple fact that the boat was an Evolution 25 measuring 26 feet. Why not give it a little abstract relevance if it costs nothing?

Bav 38/238

I'm aware what the number on my sail represents. As I said, I was thinking GBR numbers, and how you'd have one before the boat was delivered. Anyway, as I also said, it appears that in the case of our boat, the builder did pay the sail maker a few pennies more to have a number applied to the standard issue sails, which appear not have been that rubbish either as they're still in reasonable condition having been retired at 12 years old.

The only mystery is where the 238 number comes from, as it doesn't seem that our boat is hull number 238 of that model.

Here in Oz only internationally raced classes have KA number for Oz. Everyone else who races have a number allocated by their club. So many years back I fronted up to East Fremantle Yacht Club to get a number. Selecting a number is desirable if you already have numbers ont he sail. Go for the min. change. As old numbers are hard to remove.
I said "give me the lowest number available" (less work) She gave me no 1 "is that oK" she asked. I agreed. So that is my boat number. That that make it incredibly old?
Well time has passed and now it is incredibly old. to go with olewill

Get your sailmaker to put GBR on your new sail. Otherwise your friends will sneer at you for having such ancient sails! :p

+1 K became GBR years ago and if you race your boat you should have gone through many sets of sails since the change.

All of your boat's documents showing 'K' is not a problem although if you leave your sail showing 'K' you might attract a protest if you start doing well and you haven't got written dispensation from the race officer...

Don't be a luddite; go for the correct GBR marking.
