As autumn approaches I am thinking I ought to get the sails off over the winter and laundered/serviced, which will probably include a new sacrificial strip on the Genoa.

Our boat is a 26ft Griffon so not massive sails, any recommendations of a good sail loft ideally in the Portsmouth/Fareham/Gosport/Hamble/Southampton areas and how much I can expect to pay?

TIA

I've found Simon at sewpro, shamrock quay (soton) very good and friendly, although being relativelty new to the whole game have nothing to compare him to. I think he mentioned about £30 each for laundering the sails for my sabre 27. Not sure about the UV strip, maybe £70 - 80. don't tell him I suggested that tho!

I have used Flew Sails in Porchester for a number of years. Always excellent service and reasonable prices. Well worth calling Mark for a quote.

Cheers

Richard

Re: Sail Loft (Maintenance of Sails)

Suggest think of laundering your sails yourself.

Non-bio soap/flakes and a non-enamel bath. Give them a good wash and very good rinse to remove salt. Hang out to dry or spread out on grass (careful not to get grass stains though).

Your sails aren't that large and they don't come back from sailmakers Daz white anyway.

Any sailmaker should be able to give a quote for servicing/replacement of sacrificial strip.
