Morning all,

I have an old sail which is serviceable but rust marked etc. Is it possible to dye it a different colour (Orange) and if so how much?

As ever many thanks for all replies.

If the sail is a synthetic material eg Terylene, Dacron etc you are unlikely to be able to dye it. If it is cotton then you will be able to dye it.

Not tried it but I've been told (by a sailmaker) that oxalic is fine to use on synthetic sailcloth. It certainly removes rust stains on decks etc.

It really does work . Have saved many sails in the past .

I use an old "roasting tray" with oxalic acid solution in . Lay out sail and push tray under affected part . Do bit by bit .
