I need a new sail cover for a 26footer. I just need a simple cover (no lazy jacks or anything) so how much should I be paying? I've got one quote for €300/£250:eek:. This seems expensive to me or am I just out of touch?

I'd be very keen to know how much anyone paid who'd bought a sailcover recently:)

Ouch! buy me arm! Ouch! Buy my foot!

As for the cover... Iirc mail speed marine and some of the others do pre made boom / sail covers at quite cheap prices....

That one that does the catalogues which we all get three or four of... What's it called..?.

Perhaps slightly on the steep side. I paid £193 in July 2010 for a made-to-measure mainsail cover for a 27-footer.

Would you mind sharing the maker name Who tailored that cover? Was the service & quality good to?

Maybe a pre-made one would do. I see 'Covered Up' do an 11 to 12 ft mainsail cover for £69.99 + P&P. Seems only in blue but I could live with that foer the change out of £250:D

i bought one of e bay a few wks ago 10 ft boom for 62 quid brand new. there made in china as stock sizes. fits well material is a bit thinner than most but good value for money, expect it to protect my mainsail for a few years till i can afford something better.

Hmmm interesting...

.. new cover for £250 custom made, generic one from a chandelry for £125, New generic cover from manufacturer for £70, and a chinese generic cover for £60. I'm liking the choices much better now

Sail cover

It seems to me that in buying new the fabric for the cover will be the major cost. Heavy polyester breathable fabric is about 30squid per metre and more for UK. The making of the cover will be less than or similar to fabric costs.
You can fairly easily buy the fabric and sew it up on a domestic machine. Buy plastic clips for attachment under neath. A bit more complex if the sail with slugs remains on the mast so needing a shaped cover around the mast and up the sail. Don't go for lightweight fabric the wind will destroy it rapidly. good luck olewill

I have one for sale that I'd part with for a reasonable amount but its from a 24' foot boat so would probably be too small I think
