Try BioTex. I just cleaned my genoa in BioTex the result was great looks like new. Procedure: Empty 1 pack (500grams) into a wheely bin add hot water to disolve fill to cover sail, put in sail, agitate and leave for about 48 hours. Remove rinse well (hose with sail suspended between trees is good) Hey presto! new sail.

I'm a novice, in what conditions would you launch the wheelie bin ? Do they come with roller reefing ?

Tim

No ! but they do have a built in launching trolley, they also take the beach well!! unless theres a following sea.

Thanks for the tip. My sails are rather soiled due to age, are yours the same or in not bad conditon to start with.

Rob My sails are very old and had lots of green stuff on them and looked very grey until the "treatment"

BIO-TEX isn't something we have here. Is it a bleach? Or an organic version of bleach? Could you look at the container and see what the active ingredient is?

Thanks

Works brilliantly on very green spray dodgers and sheets as well. The sheets were put into the washing machine after the soak and washed in Bio Tex as well.

OIL REMOVAL?

I appreciate the Bio Tex tip, but I have one major problem... The mainsail I have, whilst only small (it's for a 1936 motorsailor) looks like it's been left in the bilges for some time! It has several large (yard square!) oil marks on it. Any ideas on how to get rid of this without resorting to hefty chemicals? They're a nylon, rather than cotton material. Cheers!

Excellent Trevor, I'll try this as soon as I can, thanks again. Tips like these make this site worthwhile.

Regards Rob

Biotex is a enzyme based pre-wash. One uses it to soak clothing prior to putting into the normal wash. Don't have any in the cupboard at the moment, but I'm sure you will have a similar product wherever you are.

Trevor- Thanks for the tip but will BioTex remove brown iron stains? If not, any ideas. Mike.

Trevor,

Tried the technique, cleaned it fairly well, though there are still some black/mildew stains any idea?

regards

Rob
