I'd be interested as well. When I spoke to Dolphin I was basically told off for not getting them to them soon enough! I have some sympathy over my tardyness but not really helpful.

Had both main and Geny done in the summer at Dolphin with some repairs, good turn around time but at a price.

They did forget to put on the new UV strip and when pulled up about the UV said that it had not been part of the quote think it was another £150 which would have had me at the price of at least one new sail. However what they did do was done well and within the timescale i asked for.

I'm having my jib washed, checked over and a new UV strip. Washing is £30 incl check over. UV strip and restitching web jackstays £140. W Sails in Leigh-on-Sea.

If you're at Bradwell this weekend Alan I'll come over for a /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Most of the cost was in getting the damn sails down to the laundry in Portsmuff.

I suggest next year we have a collection point and get them taken down on one cost transport as a job lot.
My carriage was something in the order of 80 quid.
Apparently there arent that many laundries left that do it.

It would make going to the sailmaker for a service much cheaper, and prob a bit more predictable.

Even better if we get a pantechnicon load, yes?

TIP TOP SAIL LAUNDRY
Area: PORTSMOUTH
13 ORDNANCE COURT
ACKWORTH ROAD
PORTSMOUTH, HAMPSHIRE, PO3 5RZ

Jim

I normally have access the a transit size van and would be willing to do the trip in the autumn if we can get a good deal.

I agree, being based in north london the main cost is getting the sails to a loft. For 4 sails from a 22ftr its a toss up between the petrol cost (and finding a whole day) to deliver things versus courier charges. If someone organises something for next year I'd be very interested.

Still waiting to see if bradwell will let me have a few feet of muddy water next year /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What do they do in Portsmouth that is worth sending them that far? Something other than wash and dry and check over, repair as necessary?
W Sails have their own machines and hang them to dry in the sail loft over the weekend. If the sails are too big he hires in a bigger machine now and again. Is £30 a good price? Seemed to do a good job last year and is very near to home.

Roger,
I have had them done through Wilkinson and also at Lonton & Gray. They both said the nearest machine is Portsmouth.
If you have somewhere nearer that will give us a deal, I am in.

having asked around about cleaning sails it seems that most favour using non bio powder in the bath and soaking the sails for a couple of days. Anyone have any views on this?

My wife would have quite a lot of views about that. Can't see it would hurt but rinsing several times and drying would be a real pain - the floodline number is......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
