sail bag !!

Afternoon hive mind , I have a solent rigged ketch wth the inner sail is hanked on , normally I just fold it up and tie it down on deck, I have though about a sail bag and seen a few advertised to keep the sail covered on deck .
Apart from the usual caveats of UV and dirt , remember I Sail in Scotland UV are the bags a good idea will they prolong the sail life or can they actually add more windage unless packed beautifully.
do others use a sail bag on deck for their hanked on sails
I can get the local sail maker to make a bag so no issues but suspect another £100+ spent on the boat , and I need a new alternator, inverterer , and rope

I had a dedicated sail cover made for my staysail. Looks like a mainsail cover, clips around the inner forestay, along the foot to the clew. I bought it to leave the sail permanently hanked on. Before that it was folded into a sail bag from the clew but left clipped onto the stay. The sail cover is far neater and easier to use. By tensioning the sheet when the sail is down, the cover allows good airflow through the sail and helps to dry it if wet. I don’t have a boom on my sail.

You don't need one, if budget is being planned I would prioritise it on other stuff. I have some surplus, large sail bags, you are welcome to one.

I live in Norway (Oslo) a little bit north of Scotland, even here the UV take its toll on uncovered sails.
