I have just returned from 2 weeks sailing, was sail 8 the pathetic failure that it promised to be? - didnt see anything in any of the papers on the rare occaision i was able to obtain them.

as 28 ppl have viewed without comment ......

I didnt support it cos I was one of the cynical realists so my opinion is slightly biased but ...
yes - imo - it was probably a failure on practically all counts ..... the only report I saw about it was 'some yottie supporters' of this hair brained scheme were allowed to talk to 'honoury' sir bob ......... yuck

maybe I am a bit more than a bit biased ?

so I am pretty sure no froggies did the crossing, few even heard of the concept, many were confused and it probably put back anglo credibility for being a true european (like them) a few more years.

unless someone knows a better way of describing the weekend outing ?

Yep - shame really cos some people really tried to make it work - well done to those who got across the channel - shame no-one was there for you to pick up - still sounded like an exhilarating sail

You can read my version of the wash-up here.

It's changed my thinking on a few things...nothing to do with Sir Bob or anything else...everything to do with some of the information I would not have otherwise been exposed to.

I share the fears expressed by many surrounding this about poor African leadership being a major factor but I'm not at all sure that it is the complete reason for standing back and doing nothing per se. That's as close to a political comment as I would want to get on the subject but put it this way, rather than feeling that ybw.com has egg on its face over this am personally pleased that we got involved.

Re: From one of the pathetic participants :-)

you do yourself an injustice with a header like that.

what you did was commendable, well done for all your efforts - even if I didnt agree with it
