I think I have a problem with my besenzoni passarelle slowly lowering itself. Marina called to say it is getting a bit close to the dock. I left it 6-7 weeks ago a few feet above the dock. Don't think it's water level change. Not aware of any leaks, hasn't need more hydraulic fluid. Anyone experienced this?

a friend in his old besenzoni has it... Don't know how old yours is, his is quite old!
Have you got pics of the pump assembly and pipework around there?
Something to do with leaking of oil from one side of the ram to the other (so no outside leaks!).

First thing I'd do is check what oil is in there and replace it according to besenzoni specs, which apparently are NOT AFT oil that most ppl use!
have to search again my logs it was the same I used for my stabs hydraulics which I was told is a tad thicker so a change of oil may solve the problem if you're lucky
His problem improved a bit when I gave him some of my oil to replace but he didn't empty all of his so now has an unspecified mix

cheers

If you do not have any obvious exterior leaks, sounds very much like oil getting past the piston seals in the lifting cylinder. Should be a simple fix to change the seals and test the cylinder which you can either get a boatyard to do and pay through the nose or remove the cylinder yourself and take it to a local hydraulic shop. Failing that it could be a leaking control valve in the system or possibly a leaking pump but IMHO you should start with the lift cylinder

We had this problem last year ram rebuilt with new seals and problem solved

well, you were lucky, I had the seals replaced, lasted less than a season, cylinder was scored inside (load and stresses...) so ended up getting a new full ram built in Athens fairly cheaply (in ss as well!). Now with the right hydraulic oil and the stain in the teak at the bathing platform is about to disappear (two yrs!)
