OK, so I have reached that certain age where companies, namely SAGA, are marketing me for all sorts of "over 50's" deals. None of them grabbed my attention until one dropped on my doormat for boat insurance. I completed the form (which was fairly minimal) and got a reply back today - £250! Thats at least a £100 cheaper than my current insurer, Marinesafe.

I will, of course, scan the T&C's but at a glance they actually look more favourable than my current provider.

Any of you other over-50's chaps out there heard of or indeed use SAGA boat insurance? Any experiences, good or bad?
 
I think Saga are fine and have used them for both household and motor insurance. But found them somewhat restrictive when it came to boat insurance eg hummed and harred when I told them it was made of steel (aren't all REAL ships? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and recoiled in horror when I told them I kept and used it abroad. If neither of these affect you, they should be OK
 
Funnily enough, I didn't think they would insure mine either being as old as it is. But they have offered to. As I say, I will call them and sound them out first re surveys etc and on-going requirements. My current insurer has never asked for a survey, but I sent them one anyway!
 
About the only thing I was looking forward to when hittting 50, was cheap SAGA deals, but found them to be dearer than elswhere for just about everything. Quite disapppointing really. Keep us posted on the T&C's. Sounds good.
 
I've used Saga for the last three years. Very good service on their call centre lines whenever I have added or subtracted an item such as a dinghy or a generator, or changed from Plymouth base to Thames, etc. They seem quite happy with 20 yr old boats - but then Watsons are known for their great strength and longevity.

Also now have family travel insurance (excellent - allows 17 yr old offspring to go off on her own with ins. cover - phew) and the Wayfarer too.

But.... I haven't tried claiming anything yet !
 
Been with Saga for 3yrs with boat, also car and household. Had car claim 2yrs ago paid out no probs also had household claim with no probs. Not had a claim on boat yet!! What is it about things happening in three,s!!They are very good to get hold of and you speak to someone that replies in English.
 
Just changed from Saga for my renewal due next week. They were only marginally more expensive (not enough diffential in itself to make me change) than the firm I'm going to but my new company are offering free legal cover & protected NCD within the price.
 
I looked at their insurance for my boat a few years ago. Lots cheaper, but the T&Cs were totally unrealistic, and would have meant that I might just as well have saved the money and just had 3rd party.

Of course things may have changed since then!!!!
 
I think they're trying to capture our market. When I instigated the question with them some years ago, they only wanted to cover inshore/inland stuff. Now they are pestering me regularly, although I haven't moved from Nav Gen who gave the best quote.
