Just received notification of HKJ offering to reinsure my boat.
Same premium as from SAGA last year.
No obvious changes to terms and conditions or one or two minor requests made by me.

I’ve just changed insurers to Craftinsure. (Looked at Topsail, Curtis and Admiral)
I‘ve focussed my attentions on my requirement for cover when the boat is unattended at anchor.
The best statement I’ve got is from Craftinsure (although I would have preferred a positive statement not a double negative).
We will not pay any claims arising from:
Claims arising from “Boat Name” being stranded, sunk, swamped or breaking adrift whilst unattended except on a recognised mooring”

“recognised mooring“
is one that is a sheltered anchorage on a chart

I had that clause when I was considering renewing with Topsail and I didn't like their response to my questions. I went for the Curtis policy (N&G) that didn't have any restrictive clause relating to anchoring, all that I could find was "You have taken all reasonable steps to protect Your Insured Property from loss or damage". You could question what is the definition of reasonable though.

I got caught out once.
Boat was insured marina based. took boat away and left on a commercial/ recognised swinging mooring for holidays . A storm came through and boat sunk.
Insurance co would only pay 50% as insurance policy was marina based. Had not read the small print!

Most of the policies I looked at were underwritten by N&G but with very different policy wording. I don’t know why they can’t just use N&G‘s totally reasonable wording.
I did ask N&G for a direct quote but in 2 weeks I haven’t heard from them. I guess they don’t want to get in conflict with their brokers.
Indeed what are “reasonable steps ” ? maybe sipping sangria on the shore might not cut it.
