Why don't the Oxford & Cambridge crews wear lifejackets when all the journos & followers in the launches apparently have to?
Do the boats comply with the latest SOLAS requirements, and have they made a proper passage plan?

The oars (they call them blades) are buoyant. In theory, in the event of shipwreck, the rowers (they call them oars) cling on to their blades and paddle ashore. Then, presumably, they shoulder the blade and walk inland until someone asks them what it is.

My money was on Cambridge (bugger).

you were right, cambridge won morally but oxford cheated by building their boat a foot too long.

Used to race dinghies on the Thames from Ranelagh at Putney. One of the local rules was anchors. We had the lightest grapnel very little money could buy, on a short length of paracord. Seemed to satisfy everybody. Never used it though.
