Hello everyone, I have a Sadler 34 built in 1988. There is water in the skeg and rudder. The shipyard here at the Baltic Sea wants to remove the skeg to find out where water is entering. Unfortunately they do not know how to remove the skeg. What is the best way to do this? Can someone give a tip or does anyone here know how to do it? Please excuse my poor English.

There is a page on Sadler34 rudder on my website Sadler 34 and 32 rudder bearings

The skeg is unbolted inside the lazarette. There is a great deal of sealant to dig out. The rudder cannot be lowered without taking the skeg at the same time due to its tapered shape but I think you could take the skeg without lowering the rudder. The rudder is quite straightforward, just remove the bronze stock at the top.

Peter,
Welcome to the forums.
Please repost your contribution from ~10mins ago. You hit the wrong button and reported #2 instead of quoting/replying to it.

Oh yes, sorry for the mistake, I'm unfortunately not so good in English, I hope I will improve

ok thanks, that's clear. Water has penetrated the skeg and therefore the shipyard wants to dismantle the skeg to see where it has penetrated. But there is the question of how to detach the skeg from the hull. The heads of the bolts in the lazarette have exposed them and are now wondering how best to remove the skeg from the hull.

Not sure I understand your problem. Remove all the nuts from the studs. In theory the skeg will now come off but I am told there is a lot of sealant that will hold it in place.
