I am biting the bullet and plan to install a fridge in a Sadler 34.

Can't see anywhere sensible to put a standalone unit so am thinking of converting one of the two top access bins in the galley area and using something like a Waeco 55 cooling unit.

One of the bins has a simple drop in plastic bin, the other is already insulated but tends to get warm from the calorifier hoses.

Has anyone who has done this any advice on what cooling equipment to use, where to site the cool box, where to put the compressor and how to ventilate it?

I am not on board so can't measure up but I get the impression that most of the commercial evaporator plates would be an awkward fit.

Thanks

My 34 is evidently somewhat different from yours. It came with an Engels fridge, I think 55 litre, standing next to the companionway steps. This may be a drawer unit on yours? It was air cooled with the heat exchanger at the back. Airflow was very poor, through a grille into the port side locker that was too low, so the fridge didn't work well even in UK. Before going to the Med I replaced it with a Waeco 65 litre unit that was converted to water cooling by replacing the Danfoss unit. The fridge is self contained apart from the water pump.

The original cool box, next to the cooker, is very poorly insulated. I have improved it by adding some polystyrene and builders foam but it still is not great, very difficult to access beneath.
