Sadler 32 skeg

Morning all,

I have removed some of the antifoul etc around the bottom of the skeg on my Sadler 32. This is where a bronze shoe takes the weight of the rudder (as per pictures). The bearing probably needs replaced as there is a little lateral play however I am going to do leave this season and do this job next year.

I therefore am going to have to repaint the scraped area. What is the opinion as to the best way to approach this?

Bear in mind that I will remove again next year to have the bronze shoe removed. Would perhaps some primocon and then antifoul suffice or is something else required (epoxy first then primer and antifoul?)

Antifoul straight over it. As its only in for a year and only there to minimise weed growth it will be fine.

Funnily enough I had similar situation when I bought Sadler 32 about 18 months ago.It'd been epoxied some years before and had some bare patches especially on the rudder. I was advised by a tech guy at International to use Interprotect. However data sheet says not for GRP so maybe he misunderstood. I think I will use Primocon this year

I just antifoul and it's fine every year - IIRC the epoxy we applied to the hull would not adhere to the shoe.
