We were on our way to Harwich today from Southwold when off Orford Ness we spotted Charis having difficulties.
Wind was around 20knts apparent and they had lost their forestay.
We shot over to lend assistance and advised them to sail off downwind and get a halyard up front to keep the rig up.
It also gave them a chance to semi furl the sail.
After about an hour all was done.
They waved their thanks and we broke off our standing by.
We'd sailed almost half way back to Sizewell by this time so we decided not to bang into the wind up to Harwich so headed back home.

Charis however headed back upwind towards the Ness under power.
Did anybody see her?
Hope she made it ok.

Strangely enough I'm bringing Dynamene, a YW5 tonner, to Southwold for repair from ABP Ipswich tomorrow.
She apparently was clobbered hard in a port starboard incident the weekend before last, which has bent all the stanchions and pulpit but more importantly sheared clean through the port side lowers and cap shroud.
How they managed to keep the rig up is amazing.
I'll jury rig the broken shrouds with bulldog clips and dyneema to get her back here.
Wind looks nice and light and I should carry the tide pretty much the whole way.
