I have come across on the net this boat which seems to be just what I have been looking for...except there is no mention of headroom in the ad.Obviously not a lot but is there height to sit comfortablely on the heads and space to dress afterwards, not very technical but the space is used at least once a day!Any further commentrs on the sadler 25 bilge keeler gladly accepted. cheers

There is no mention of headroom because it is about 5'6" or less. Lovely boat for a family of midgets or if you have been decapitated. You should be able to stand with knees bent or your head tilted to one side - but you need to check it out for yourself - at 5'10" I wouldn't be comfortable standing.

Having said that my first boat was a similar size & I used to dress standing with my head out of a hatch (main or front as appropriate) the rest of the time we spent sitting. Even SWMBO at 5'2" used to cook sitting down & she could stand up in it.

Thanks,I supose one could wear knee pads! There was a time that yachtsmen put to sea in boats without standing headroom,as you say do everything sitting down or standing in the hatch!

I'm the thick end of 6' 3" and we used to have a Sadler 25. I don't remember it being especially difficult - there's stooping headroom in much of the boat and probably the best way for you to decide is to try and find one to go on a sail on, or go and visit one for sale at least!

It ticked all the boxes for us at the time - inboard diesel, sails well, proper loo and room to sleep and cook.

Many were sold as kits for home completion so standard of fit out is something to look at in any prospective purchase.

A brief description to be found in the brochures HERE

Cant find an in depth review but in the mini review PBO magazine describe the headroom as "marginal".
The layout diagram shows a heads to port but that could vary with home completed boats. I am quite sure there will be adequate sitting room, there is in my boat and that is appreciably smaller.

I onlty came across it yesterday but as you say I will have to try it out.I am going on a boat hunting trip to the uk soon as I am your height your observation is encouraging!

They are pretty to look at, and sail passably well. They are fairly priced at around £6k, as they are sometimes not well fitted, and the headroom is an issue to some people.
The Sadler 26 addressed these issues, but is over twice the price.
the 25 is on my recommended budget boating list.
The Jaguar 25 is similar.

I used to have a bilge keel Sadler 25, fantastic boat. I'm just under six foot, and as john_morris_uk says, stooping headroom throughout, and just enough room to stand upright next to the companionway.
Fine for shortish trips, but the headroom issue did deter SWMBO from longer trips, so we ended up trading up to a 29 after about 8 years happy ownership.

There was a post recently on liveaboard forum of a couple living on Sadler 25 since 1999, they were then in Malaysia. He is 6'4" and had to adapt the vee berth. So if they can do it, go for it...:)

"They are pretty to look at, and sail passably well...."

sail passable well is very much an understatement......they (fin keel version) sail amazingly well........sold mine recently and new owner has just completed Atlantic circuit in it.......beating a Sadler 29 on the way over....
