Sad news...

Very unwelcome. My guess is that it was the Heritage pontoon rather than one with small boats on. If it is the smacks damaged it will be doubly sad.

Sad news. That wreckage in the Gazette photo looks like the remains of the North Cardinal beacon and associated wind generator and signage at the seaward end of the Fishermen's pontoon.

In the Gazette this morning picture of a large (288ft) timber vessel with some slight scratches on the bow! Appears to have be aiming for a visitors' berth!

If it is the Heritage pontoon that has been clobbered, then all I can add is a salutory "I told you so!"

Narrowing the channel with large coasters going to and from the wharf...it has always been an accident waiting to happen and only a matter of time before it did...but there what do I know? Only been sailing out of Brightlingsea for 52 years!

Hope that the only damage to any boat was the scratching to the side of the timber boat!!

No she was coming in; it was a bit foggy; she came straight in and hit the main fisherman's pontoon. Quotes "There was a bit of a crunch"! "It should not have come in. There was zero visibility".

Apparently it came to collect wood chips for Sweden! ?

The paper describes the vessel as a motorised barge!

Quite a beast when you think of this dorking the pontoon: see here http://shipbuildingtribune.com/2012...jects-shipyard-in-poland-delivers-mv-calamar/
