Sad news for Plymouth...

Is it possible that the RN has reviewed the practicalities of the new super carriers navigating the Portsmouth harbour entrance? Maybe the long term plan is big hulls in Devonport and everything else in Portsmouth.

What the hell are you on about man?

For the life of me I can't figure out how you came to that conclusion or why you are trying lay it at my door!

Are you attempting to have me argue about a scenario you have just invented? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'll tell you what - just to play along - I'll "tell the thousands..." et.c. If YOU tell the millions what benefit the proportion of their taxes that go on defence provides them.
If you want any pointers in that direction I can help - I used to work for a private naval shipyard on the Clyde. (clue - my help won't be very persuasive)

Just another kick in the teeth for Plymouth and the Southwest.
Despite government promises , still , not very labour votes down this way.

Youve hit the nail on the head there.. The fleet will be split between Pompey & Faslane..Guzz will dip out.

Remind me please, but which constituencies does a lump of the Government represent.. Oh thats right I forgot - Scottish ones !

Sound like a good plan. Sink two ships and block in the RN. One at Rhu Narrows will block Faslane and on in the entrance to Portsmouth harbour.

Remind me please... What PROPORTION of the population does a PROPORTION of the Government represent? .. Oh that's right, I forgot - a Scottish one!

So I've paraphrased your rhetoric and what pops out? A non-point! No content! No blinding revelation! A fact that we all know. It seems fair in principle and adds nothing to your argument.
At least... I assume it's meant to make a point. Maybe your point is that the Scottish should have no say in defence - a reserved matter - which cannot be legislated for in the Scottish Parliament ?

Dunno - nor do I care - I just don't like to see rabid nonsense.

I live about 20 miles from Faslane and I don't see any benefit from their presence - except perhaps that in a pre-emptive strike on the UK I'm likely to die quicker and in less pain than the rest of you as they take out Faslane, Coulport and Glen Douglas.

Er, has it all been a dream? The global economy hasn't collapsed, the cold war is still on, and it's actually 1984? Last I checked, it was all over, including the shouting, and the fat lady had done her warbling and gone home hours ago.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

To complete the eighties flashback you should have included the yanks over in the Holy Loch, playing with their manky auld polaroids. They did hold good parties though...
