Sad news, but touching tribute to Old Gaffer sailor

I didn't know him but I'm sure there will be plenty of people on the forum who did; Jon Wainwright.

“He lived for sailing and loved the Old Gaffers and did a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes.

“He lived life completely to the full and the fact that he died at the helm of one of his beloved gaff-rigged boats is a tribute to him."

Total respect , 61 is still so young but he was doing what he enjoyed most . Rest in peace

What a result for him!
Anyone who has read his autobiography will know that he struggled to overcome his heart operations to continue sailing, and there was a recognition that he would not live to a ripe old age.
Farewell Jon, life is the better for the unique memorable characters like you.

Only so many tides...... so true.
