Sacrificial Strip Replacement.

As the only time the u/v strip actually does anything useful is when the sail is furled, might it not be better to contrive a removable sleeve to hoist over it when moored up? PVC fabric plus velcro plus webbing should cost less than one replacement sacrificial strip.
I have a sock, it is a pain when single handing it also needs a new zip all 15 metre`s of it

I have a "sock". It has fasteners at about a foot intervals, solves most of your problems. You don't have a spinnaker halyard?

Ok
Crusader collected my 23 kg sail yesterday ( cheaper than any deal i could get too ). They received it this morning by 09.00, well done Parcel Force.
Gary rang me at 11.00 to say they have the sail & have checked it over. The only work involved is the U/V strip & @ the quoted price. No trying to drum-up extras, nice chaps to deal with.
Its still very much cheaper, to pay carriage 2 ways than have a local loft do the work, a shame but thats what it is, their loss.

It's best if you remove the old strip first and say that it will be removed prior to replacement.
Otherwise, some sailmakers will sew a new one over the top of the old one instead of removing it first.

I replaced my sacrificial strip about 7 yeras ago. I did enquire the cost from a sailmaker and he said the biggest cost was removing the old strip so I did it myself and he was right - there were FOUR strips to remove and it took ages. The material cost was not a lot(from Kayospruce) and sewing on was easy but I do have a semi industrial Singer sewing machine.

This price included fully removing the old strip

Well to report back
my sail arrived back from Crusader today. i told them i was in no hurry & they also offered free storage until i needed it.
I also had a binnacle cover made at the same time again very reasonably priced
All done for the agreed price & collection & delivery were very reasonable indeed.

Well done Crusader Sails & nice to deal with too, a very personal service.
