Just had a lovely trip from St Aines up to Henley and back, plenty of boats out but no lock queues, all locks staffed, one day (out of three) of brilliant weather, a stag night in Henley (where, as a special surprise treat we had ... a trip on the river!)
Single handed in the rain all the way back from Henley yesterday was quite tiring, but got back to the home reach and the old hear was warmed to cross paths with Gavi; a "dipping" of the Nav lights was adequate code for a couple of pints in the Swan; truly glad to be home.
I trundled back home, moored up, and thanked my lucky star that the whole trip was beautifully uneventful, the boat performed like a swiss watch, no problems in the locks etc, gave a final tweak of the warps before heading to the bath, and my mobile phone shot out of my shirt pocket and into the murky depths )c:
I guess this is just one of those occaisional sacrifices that we have to make, but a bit of a pain.
I took loads of photos of my little trip (sunken NBs, burned out NBs, and, er, other stuff...). They're all on the river bed )c:
Coolest thing I saw though, way way the coolest thing, which I couldn't photograph with a camera-phone, was some very very young great crested grebes, they can only have been a few days old, BUT I didn't know that they ride around on their parents backs like cygnets - how cool is that???
