Hi everyone, i recently had a problem with the horizon windlass on my s28 after anchoring just off osbourne house in the solent .
The anchor was deployed using the foot button with no problem, on bringing the anchor in and slowly creeping forward to take up the slack until the chain was near vertical the windlass was working fine until the last meter or so and just stopped, on depressing the foot buttons the solenoid could be heard clicking, the remainder off the chain was pulled up by hand.
My plan of action was to first consult the owners manual which was not much help i intend to start with the easiest fixes first the circuit breaker where can this be found on the s28 ?
does it also have a fuse inline ?
Once i have eliminated the circuit breaker i hope to check for any breaks in the power supply to the windlass and the solenoid contacts before starting to dismantle the windlass any advice on this would be appriciated.

Unless things changed a heck of a lot, my experience with Sealines (X8) is that they located the solenoid in the anchor locker. Also it was only to "splash proof" standard. Result - I had to replace several solenoids with symptoms exactly as you describe. I hope that they changed the practice but fear they didn't. Good luck.

Mine was on a small box mounted on the vertical bulkhead in the anchor locker.
But there is more to the circuit ... low amperage lines go back to the breaker panel as well.

Thanks for the replys yes the solenoid is in the anchor locker just as you have described looks like nothing has changed as mine is a 2005 just asumed with the windlass being quite a amperage draw when working would have its own dedicated circuit breaker somewhere close to the battery feeding it.

Ours used to do this all the time on our S28, would retrieve the anchor almost all the way in and then the circuit breaker would trip and then we'd hear the click and no response. Turned out the anchor chain was piling into a cone in the locker so the remaining few feet had nowhere to go so would jam the windlass and trip out the breaker. We had to undo the circular access hatch and reach inside the anchor locker to move the chain aside at allow room. We'd have to first reset the breaker switch on the panel above the battery isolators before bringing the rest of the chain in.

On a related note make sue you wash off your anchor chain as corrosion on the chain I think this contributed to our anchor chain running less freely in the locker. You could go for stainless to help it pool rather than pile up but check the price first ££££!
