As the title kind of implies we are looking for some snap davits for the transom of our Sealine S23. Can anybody recommend some suitable ones and has anyone fitted them to an S23?

Whilst we are at it, can anyone suggest a way of mounting a 6hp Mariner to an S23?

We maybe should have thought about this before buying the dinghy :D

Hi,

My dad owns a S38 and previousely he owned a S23. I remember we decided to mount a small dinghy (wetline 260) on the back of the S23 and simply it was neither possible, nor a good looking job. The reason is that you don't have anywhere to install the davits. the platforms depth (transom to edge) on S23 is not wide.

The local marina had some davits from which the dinghy was just hanging. We could have installed it on the transom (swimming platform) but then there was no space to get on the boat! and again, it would have been a very awkward shape thingy which just makes the boat look ugly...

At the end he gave the dinghy to me and it was in fact my 1st boat which I owned/maintained myself at the age of 14! :D:D

There is an S23 a few berths down from us that has snap davits installed so we know it can be done. The current owner of the boat doesnt have a dinghy but its previous owner did and used them successfully so we know it can be done.

We have now done a deal on a set of new snap davits davits and stand off arms in return for our old dinghy and electric outboard package. Picking them up next week so they should be installed in time for Easter and our first break of the year.

The main difficulty now is finding somewhere to mount the outboard. It is a fair bit bigger and heavier than our old one and we dont really want to install an ugly bracket on the transom of the boat. Any ideas welcomed.

We have now picked up the snap davits. In the end we have gone for the snap davits that mount to the rear vertical face of the bathing platform. These were the best option as we have a grab rail mounted on the vertical face of the BP which the dinghy will have to clear. They also wont pose such a trip hazard in theory of course. Now we just need to mount them but that is next weekends job.

Well finally we have managed to get around to fitting the snap davits. Not as bad a job as we had first imagined. So here you go

So with the boat side sorted we turned out attentions to ASBO. First up we had a small puncture to repair.

Then it was time to fix the davit pads to the boat. We measured, measured again and then measured again so hopefully they are in the right place. We wont know for certain until next weekend when the adhesive has fully gone off then we can hook the boat up

It would explain the huge M&S Burgee you appeared to be flying last week, I now realise it was your annual Knicker washing time :D

Finally managed to get the dinghy onto the davits on Friday night and here is the final result. The dinghy had some water in it hence why it is sat down on one side. When we had bailed it out it sat level on the davits.

The outboard bracket is as we speak being put together by Liam so should be ready to fit by next weekend then hopefully we will have the set up sorted ready for the Wells trip. Next up we need to find a quiet section of river to see if NC is still happy to plane with the extra weight hung of the back!!

I am always at a loss to understand why people carry a dinghy when on the river. It isn't as if they are picking up a swinging mooring and need to get ashore. The only reason I can see is if you want something to keep the kids occupied when tied up somewhere.
Perhaps someone will enlighten me.

NC struggles to get up rivers/creeks/ditches that have an air draft of just over a foot or two, dinghy doesnt. Dinghy is a recent purchase but has already proven to be a good source of entertainment as well a transport. Nothing stopping you anchoring up on the river and taking dinghy to the pub.

We are heading to Wells next the Sea in a couple of weeks, dinghy will be very handy as it will when we go to the Broads in about six weeks.

Big boat would struggle to do this without a good run up:D

I must get a small Boat, and affix it to my back door too. It'll make getting in and out far easier... :D

Didnt manage to get a picture of the access aboard but surprisingly it isnt any more difficult than it was before. The standoff arms hold the dinghy well away from the transom. :D

(You lose that one im afraid :))
