Merry Christmas,

Santa seems to have brought me a vintage manual S and L windlass for xmas. Trouble is google didn't immediately yield any results on the gypsy ID!

Its marked with a V and also further around with 160 but these dont bear any resemblance to the manuals I can find!

Any help or pointers gratefully recieved.

The 510 Hyspeed winch: 10mm gipsy is RCA60
8mm is RCA70

The 555 Seatiger winch: 1/2" gipsy is RCB60
10mm gipsy is RCB70

I have the manuals for these two in pdf

Thanks all, I figured it out now

The manual refers to a 162 this is revision 2 of the 160, in other words it takes a 10mm chain.

Hopefully that's what's residing in our anchor locker, having not yet taken all that much interest in it after checking it was suitable for anchoring while eating a pasty!

30 years ago is before my time but do note that now there are 2 specifications for 10mm chain, ISO and Din and that the two are incompatible, there are different gypsies for each specification. It would be a testament to galvanising if the chain is 30 years old, and more, and still serviceable. The chain may be much newer than the windlass. You could measure the links or take a few links to your nearest chandler and compare to new chain.

Check Vyv Cox' website for link dimensions of simply use a google search.
