The bearing of the line seems to be kept a secret in official documents only quoting the mast/Triangle and lights.

However, there is more than one option for the RYS line, so it depends which one they are using. I would expect that the Fastnet would use the same line as the RTI though....

There are two lines!
Two different white group ODMs for Cowes week.
Two alternative sets of triangles and lights on the roof.
Could be more than two, maybe the whole thing is adjustable these days?

Many thanks, much easier to convince my skipper if I can draw it on the chart plotter.

It looks like a slow and wet race this year.

That's why they don't publish the line's position.
The line is where the two sticks form a transit.
Everything else is just an aid not to be relied on.

They haven’t used the eastern line for at least 10 years. It runs across the middle of the Medina fairway, and the harbourmaster isn’t too keen. Quite why they don’t take down the board, I don’t know. Tradition, I suppose.
The Squadron themselves say 347 true - https://www.rys.org.uk/assets/documents/8m-and-6m-regatta-2019-v1.pdf, but given that Williams Shipping is about a mile away, one degree means about 90 feet.
They do say that they spend a long time making sure the transit sighting wires line up with the cameras.
