Ryan Air Ouch!!!

The latest EU Ruling affecting Ryan Air (RA) and the use of local authority airports, where RA are receiving landing rights at a below premium price are already taking effect.

Ryan Air have already increased substantially the fares between Stanstead and La Rochelle by some 300%! Perhaps those of you that use RA to other destinations could check and monitor the increases that RA are undertaking and whether the local airport will stand the difference or part thereof.

Thanks for this. Being based on Ile de Re and travelling frequently, I set my threads for a maximum of 7 days, so lose anything if there are a lot of new ones posted in my absence.

Go to Ryan Air's site for bookings. If you travel on the La Rochelle regularly you will see the price hikes. In essence the quoted cheapest fare and the period you can travel for that price seems to have diminished, while the flight fares outside of the cheapest period have increased considerably. I hope this helps.

Ryanair pricing is set on what it thinks the market will bear, not on a cost plus profit basis. The effect of the EU ruling, which so far only affects Charleroi in Belguim, is only meant to be in the order of 6 to 8 euros.

I just checked (17:00, 9/02/04): You can fly from Stansted to La Rochelle on Ryanair for £24.99 on e.g. 20/02/04 and back on 03/03/04 for £2.49. Total for 2 people, including taxes of £34.52, is £117.04.

How much cheaper do you want the flight costs to be?

Not really! It's virtually impossible to establish whether prices have increased as the algorithms that the Airline companies use vary almost daily. It doesn't make sense that a low cost airline would increase their prices for no logical reason. They will charge what they can to ensure that their aircraft are filled.
