Any recommendations on centres for the above? I live in East London at a transport hub of a place so can get most places considered London-proper. Would want to do at a weekend or over two evenings.

And yes, I know it can be done online but having done my DS theory that way, no criticism of the course/materials etc but it was a protracted and painful process - fair to say I am not one to be trusted with self study; procrastination may be my middle name.

Elite sailing just emailed me with this !

Elite Sailing | Training and Adventure

They Do VHF regularly

Highly recommend Premier Sailing - they have VHF courses starting in March at their Chelmsford, Essex location:
Dates – Premier Sailing

Any ideas where in Chelmsford they do it? Chelmsford proper is on my trainline but if it's Fambridge then it's too much faff, as we don't run a car! I can't tell from their website, will try contacting them.

The Cruising Association at Limehouse have them scheduled but the next one isn’t until Saturday 6th June with the assessment on the 7th.

Hadn't realised non-members could go - will take a closer look! Thanks all

Greenwich Yacht Club, 15 minutes walk from North Greenwich tube station, good place to do it!

These used to be available at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre on the Isle of Dogs - I can't remember which company did them but I am sure google will find it.

Little Ship Club used to run an excellent range of RYA courses, I did my Ocean YM shore based there.
As I now live so far away from London I have let my membership lapse so can't verify if they still do run courses.

I’ve done a couple of courses with Mark from Hamilton Sailing. He’s got a few VHF courses coming up near Waterloo...

Hi Shuggy, I’m a very newbie here and thanks for the info on those courses. I will look Mark up regards those.

A blast from the past.....I wonder would you be willing to make a private direct link with me, as I’ve just become the proud owner of an old wooden boat , a 1960 Miller Fifer 33 based down in London called ‘Thistle’, and would love to talk history, as I believe you were a previous owner of her once also.

If you are, I’m not sure how best to go about it...

All best Welshy

Hi Welshy

Congratulations on acquiring Thistle. I hope you don’t find too many of my bodges, but I sold her in 2009 so they should all have been resolved by now! I can’t work out how to PM you - perhaps you’re too new? I’m using my phone so I’ll have a look on the computer later.

I don’t want to put my email address on here but if you look on Facebook our boat has a page under ‘Nicholson 43 Sarah’ or something - should be obvious - bright pink spinnaker. Do drop me a line there if you want.

Cheers,
Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Thanks for getting back to me. I haven’t found any bodges as yet as she’s on the yard and i’m unable to get to her due to the current CV lockdowns and travel restrictions and I’m currently over in Northern France.

I stepped in to purchase her due to a buyer pulling out last moment (due to amount of work required on her now, as she’s been neglected whilst being used as a Marina ‘pied a terre’) but as she also came with a 365 day stay aboard leisure mooring in Cenral London which was of interest.

Now working out what to do with her, after having had a thorough pre purchase survey, post purchase, lol!!!

Hence my research and contact and on-going planning. Somehow I think the boat chose me as I viewed her for a project a couple of years ago but with no mooring facility attached to her at the time. Funny how the Universe works sometimes don’t you think?

Anyway, would love to touch base and chat her over, so will have to work out how to forward you my details privately as don’t have messenger available to me via FB. Any suggestions welcomed ??

Thanks Dai

I think you need to make a few more posts before you can send a PM - so post away and drop me a line when you're able to. Probably the easiest way as I don't want to put my email address on here for the spambots to read. Cheers.
