RYA PY List 2012

I knew someone with a Prospect; I have to say as a sailors' boat and for build quality I'd go for the GK29 every time.

To be honest, I'm a bit of a GK29 fan but I don't think when the time comes, my pocket will stretch to one unfortunately. They seem to be on average about 50% dearer than the prospect.

The thing is a Westerly will always sell when the time comes. A Prospect might not.

Maybe so, but that's like saying a Porsche Cayman will sell when a Nissan 370z won't. If your budget doesn't stretch to the Porsche, the issue is immaterial.. and I don't borrow.

Hi all,

I've been taking a nose at the current PY list from the RYA. How accurate is this fabled list?

Reason I ask is that one of the boats I've been taking a nose at (Prospect 900) is a Van Der Stadt design and some say a worthy alternative to the Westerly GK29 but has a PY figure of over 1300, which is not exactly 'flighty'

I can't say I know much about this PY malarkey but if anyone can fill me in on it, I'd be interested.

cheers,

Nik
You haven't said if you are wishing to race. If you are, a high PY would work in your favour.
If you are just asking if it's a quick boat for fun but not racing, then it's not easy to tell from one set of results.

No as a whole I'm not too fussed about racing. (Do a little Squib racing but going around the 'cans' bores me a bit)

I'm just looking for my next boat to be more performance orientated but with the usual good accommodation, reasonable price wish-list. :)

I dont know either of those and neither appears in the list of PY numbers so cannot comment, although there is boat in the yard called Lady Porche

If you cant afford the GK29 then there's not been a lot of point is discussing it as an alternative to the Prospect.

BTW in an old PY numbers book i have ( when numbers were centred around 100 rather than 1000) the Prospect 900 is listed at 112.
Other boats with the same number were Arpege Mk1, Eygthene 24, Jaguar 27, Micro18, Micro Gem, Rival 34, Scampi 26 and Waarship ¼ ton.

It wasn't. It was the other way around. I originally asked about the GK29 and someone suggested a Prospect as a cheaper (but very similar) alternative. And now the budget is more at Prospect level rather than GK. (That said there is one GK that nearly squeezes into budget) So I'm looking at boats at similar money to the Prospect.

Hope that clears that lot up.
