So whatever RYA does to earn itself dosh from members is OK. Indeed it's a benefit since subs won't need to rise by so much?
Hey, great idea. Let's get the RYA selling our houses. If 10% of the membership used them for that, they'd earn about £72M annually. But would RYA Homesales be a benefit for members? Wouldn't RYA maybe get a bit confused about its purpose?
So it's alright for RYA to do stuff that brings in a bit of dosh, as long as its not too successful at it 'cos that would turn it into a financial services company and we'd all have HSBC emblazoned on our burgees.
I've nothing much against the notion of affinity cards being offered by the RYA. It would be nice it it were more than just average middling rates.I just object to it being pitched as a benefit of being a member.
