I recently received my RYA magazine and there is a page devoted to something called Flag Etiquette.
It was a most stimulating article that pointed out the do's and don'ts of Flags and Burgees.
Most interesting - possibly its time for a thread on here about it all?
Anyway - I was reading it to Dear Heart before lights out in the senior dorm last night and she fell asleep. I fear that she may have missed most of it so I shall make it a topic of conversation at Supper this evening.

I fear you are in self denial, Dear Heart obviously internalised your teachings (amongst other things) and started flagging

Re: Health Warning

he did at one time fly a pair of, what looked like, his grundies in lieu of. I know its colder in Fleetwood but wearing a pair of knickers over one's head is unlikely to make one go blind other than to have one's sight temporarily impaired.

Re: Health Warning

Dear Heart and Mrs Parahandy are outside their nursing home having a drink and a smoke when it starts to rain. Mrs Parahandy pulls out a condom cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues to smoke.

Dear Heart: What in hell is that ?
Mrs P: A condom, this way my cigarette doesn't get wet.
Dear Heart: Where did you get it ?
Mrs P: You can get them from family planning.
The next day Dear Heart hobbles off to the clinic and announces to the nurse that she wants a box of condoms. The nurse obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely ( she is after all over 80 years old )and asks her very delicately what brand of condom she prefers.

Doesn't matter dear, as long as it fits on a Camel !".

Flags and Flagjudice

Are you very sure about this, sir? I have considered you remarks and on reflection I think I may indeed have one or two flags postioned on or around our own boat but good manners surely forbids me to touch or interfere with it in any way as the flag hasn't yet been introduced to me, nor yet indeed can the flag be properly introduced until it has reached its majority which must surely be aged 18 or possibly 21 years of age?

I told "HER BELOW WOT MAKES THE TEA" that trousers hanging off boom meant Skipper below engaed in non nautical activities,,Now I can't find my B.....y trousers

I read the same artical and I can only say that when it comes to flag etiquette I'm from the school of "if its up there somewhere it has to be better than not".

Port - Stb crosstrees or even the guard rail are all fair game to me /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

When the boats heeled to port the "red" drags in the water. The club burgee is now only half as long as it was at the start of the season. I think there's a "Q" up there somewhere but I haven't seen it since the halyard broke 1992.

I feel humbled by my lack of knowledge on Flag Etiquette. It goes without saying that I couldn't possibly sail a boat correctly because of my numbnuts knowledge of this art /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Simplicity

Well - thats a rather pompous take on it and - if you don't mind me saying so - I think you should be castigated for not wearing a Blue Ensign defaced being a CA type of a person. See to it would you?
