RYA - lost the plot?

While you no doubt believe your scatological references are the height of wit (or something that rhymes with it) there is a serious mess in Rio for our Olympic sailors. Security is sadly lacking in a city known for its crime and the water pollution of the sailing venue is execrable with human and animal faeces, hospital waste and dead animals. Promises to clean up the bay have been broken and are unlikely to be fulfilled.
Why there is nothing from the RYA on this mess I don't know.

I agree completely. The feedline was too good to miss, but from all I read it seems that Olympic sailors at Rio will be facing enormous health risks. Alas the who Olympic operation seems entirely focussed on money with little or no attention paid to the welfare of competitors. Or of others - it seems likely that it will also be a significant step in Zika's becoming a worldwide catastrophe.

The sports governing body, 'World Sailing Association', have been monitoring the improvement plans and now believe that the water is safe to sail in ...

All that article and the linked one say is that water quality around the launch area is "better". They don't say "good", or "safe" and they say that a ;lot of work still has to be done.

Yep, but the show must go on, sponsorship, training, logistics and all that. As long as the situation is improving and is realistically expected to be acceptable on the day, then what is there to comment on by one team, when the governing body appears to be making the public statements. The eco booms, I think I read, that sounds worrying, as if there is possibility of surface shit floating into the race area which suggests that all is not in order.
