Following the debate regarding the Royal Yachting Association on Scuttlebutt over the Christmas period the RYA's chief excutive, Rod Carr, has volunteered to appear on a ybw.com forum to answer questions.

In the first of what might turn out to be an occasional series of interviews with key boating people, we have set this pilot to run from 1600-1800GMT Tuesday 14 January. The session will be held in Eastleigh and it will be moderated by Kim Hollamby, not for any censorship reason but in order to keep some shape and clarity to proceedings.

Full details are on the forum, which is now live. To view it visit:

Or use the main index (top forum nav bar) or drop-down 'jump to' menu (foot of the page).

Re: Questions

1. Other than for saving £2 on an ICC certificate, can he confirm there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for a motorboatie to join the RYA?

2. Like all the royalty, has he too flogged or scrapped his boat? Why bother with the "Royal" tag? Kids think that it means it's like a museum.

Nice one Kim.

At last someone in the media who is willing to jump in with his size 9's to try to sort out the problems in boating rather than just sitting back to watch others struggle.

Good on yer mate more power to your elbow. But be carefull you could force others to follow your example then where would we be??

Chris

What do you mean the sea gull in front's walking !!!

I am pleased to be a member of a national boating organisation ,I have had both pleasure and considerable help from the RYA training schemes and publications. I do however, find anything with the words "Royal " & " Yacht " in the title offputting , it suggests boring old farts in blazers and cravats ! The magazine appears heavily biased towards sailing and particularly raceing , suggesting that the organisation is. If they are doing much for motor boat users they should ensure their publicity bods make us aware of it .
