I responded to the RYA's Southampton Boat Show ticket offer, ordering a ticket on Monday for Preview Day tomorrow. Unfortunately it has not arrived in today's post - which doesn't get delivered here until around 1.30 p.m. - so I will not be going to the Show tomorrow!

It turns out that the tickets are not supplied directly by the RYA, but through www.seetickets.com. I tried contacting their call centre this morning - at a cost of 10p per minute - and gave up after 10 mins. Afterall, what's the point in spending £'s on a phone call when the whole point of accepting the RYA offer was to make a small saving on the gate entry price.

I guess I will now have to go through the process of attemtpting to claim my money back from See Tickets.

Anyone else had the same problem?

As an RYA member I emailed them twice about 6 weeks ago, asking what offers they would have on tickets, still waiting for a reply! :(
Got discount ones direct from organisers, instant print out yourself.

First of all, as the person who sets up these deals for RYA members with National Boat Shows, can I say that I'm genuinely sorry if anybody has been let down on this occasion.

As has been correctly stated, we do not actually sell the tickets, merely negotiate with NBS (a wholly owned subsidiary of the BMF) to give our members the best ticket deal... as would befit the organisation who refers more ticket sales to them than any other single organisation or promotion.

NBS outsource ticket sales to Seetickets who are (I believe) the largest ticketing agent in the UK. They deal with thousands of orders each day by phone and online and with very few exceptions offer an excellent service. Unfortunately, very occasionally things do go wrong.

It's a shame you didn't contact the RYA offices directly to help resolve the situation as we probably could have sorted something out so you could go to the show on Friday. However, I'm very glad that our friends at the BMF were able to resolve the problem and I look forward to meeting you later in the week. Please remember that we have an RYA Members' Lounge at the show where you can enjoy a meal with metal cutlery on porcelain plates as opposed to plastic on cardboard. Please bring your membership card for easy access.

"Provenjohn" - I'm very concerned that your e-mails have been unanswered. Please can you tell me which address (firstname dot lastname @rya.org.uk) you sent them to and I will investigate. If we have your e-mail address, we would have sent you several e-mails telling you of the RYA ticket offer, and if you're a longstanding member, an invite to a Gold Members' reception on Preview Day. You would also receive our e-mail newsletter Cruising News every month...
