A custom motorhome body mounted on a conventional chassis and cab supplied by a truck manufacturer, usually with a fixed in place bed or storage area over the cab, although this space can sometimes be to claustrophic for Adults as headroom is limited and may be more suitable for children. Then i'll prefer a motorhome;)

A note about buying in Germany. Some Dutch friends who are serial offenders with RVs, looked at German ones about 3 months ago. Turns out German driving licenses allow higher gross wts than most other EU ones. This is reflected in the bigger ones on sale there. Another bitch was that they routinely do not fit spare wheels as this gives a bigger load carrying cap. between the unladen and gross wts.

Wasn't that motorboat F1 racer a victim of a gas attack? In SOF on his way to Spain for a race. The Dutch friends also met more than one couple who had been robbed with this method.

Stay modest.

Has anyone out there in Boatland taken a sabbatical and gone touring around Europe in a decent sized motor home of around 30-35ft in length. I'm thinking of buying an American RV (either in the UK or importing one - BTW anyone have recommendations for a UK based purveyor of used yank RVs?). Any experiences from ex-boaters' perspectives would be much enjoyed and appreciated.
I have a Hymer 664, only used it to tour this country though, based on a Ducato 2.5 turbo deisel, Much more economical than my Seat alambra 2l petrol auto, Plenty big enough for two, end bedroom shower/washroom grey waste tank, Solar panels. Satalite, we could live in it for a set time, going bigger gives problems when parking, some sites, general sight seeing. having it repaired due to a misshap while recovering because of a broken spring, pesky road humps! 12 months so far, Don't use Safegaurd, the AA or allianz since they are still arguing over who should pay what... the Ombudsman has found in my favor but that was quite a while ago, still no Vehicle. What an expensive Joke:)

Can't believe that nobody has given what must surely be the obvious answer to this situation - a trailer sailer!

You can drive around with it on the back of your car, use it as a caravan, and best of all just put it into the water and anchor even where camping is banned!

We went down in size to just under 5.5.m as we had problems parking our Arto 69G all of 7m long, our existing Rapido will fit, well nearly,in a car park space and it classifies as a car for the ferries.I decided to change after being threatened by a council pillock in Dartmouth park and ride with a fine for using a space and a half even though it was empty and I had offered to pay for two spaces.
The gas threat is real, a truck of the Renault racing team was gassed last year
