Rutland windcharger

I've taken on a boat with a Rutland 913 windcharger. I'm rewiring and want to replace the domestic single core cable currently used to connect this to the batteries.

Trouble is that the bolts securing the generator to the stainless steel mast are firmly seized and when I remove the plastic dome at the back can only see the connections from the swivel mounting.

Anyone got any advice!!

When I bought a new cable from the makers (Marlec) it was single core cable. Those Marlec boys know a thing or two and though they don't read forums I did trust their judgement!

My 913 is connected with 2 sep. wires and nothing wrong with that approach. However, they are tinned, flexible multi-strand and pass through a protective sleeve in joint at centre of pole.

I think the OP mentioned domestic single core and this will only have few strands. So it might fracture due to vibration and replacement sounds sensible (though might not turn out to be an urgent job).

The 913 normally has a short tail coming out of the top fitting and your wire will be connected to that. You can get access to the power cables inside the head but would not be able to pull the cable up through the top. The "tail" connects to slip rings.

So the wires inside the head won't connect directly to the tail and therefore no chance of using a messenger to pull them downwards.

I'm assuming that you have the normal 2 piece pole supplied by Marlec. All the screws on this sieze up after a short time. I dismantle annually and use duralec to stop them siezing.

I think that you will probably have to drill out the screws. You could re-tap to take larger size screws (through bolts would block the cable conduit).

The stainless allen key bolts go through the stainless steel mast and into the wind gen stub pole which is aluminium!

Hi call Lloyd West at Marlec he's the main man for all wind and solar, I use two 913's and and they are wired as set by Lloyd not a problem in 3 years of use.
The 913 mount to the pole is via an aluminum bar inserted inside the pole, it will have corroded and powdered up, new ones can be purchased I believe but talk to Lloyd he'll keep you right.
