Rusty

Just noticed my rusty guard rail! Is it just cosmetic, or needs replacing? And if cosmetic, is there a good product to remove the staining?

Oxalic acid will make the wire bright & shiny.

The stanchion just needs a polish. This will do the job...

It is only a rust stain that has spread from where the s/s has been in contact. The wire looks in good order, so I wouldn't think it needs replacing unless it is known to be ancient. There are those who don't abide by the idea of cleaning or polishing, but on a clean boat (or engine) it is easier to see where problems might arise.

Diet coke is a first rate and cheap rust remover. And you can drink any you dont use!
