Rusty metal water tank

Well I guess the only answer to rust coming out in the water from the metal tank (which we're not drinking!) - is, 'buy a new one'?

Or am I wrong? can something like this be sorted?

Are you sure it is rust? steel is unusual for water tanks - usually stainless, aluminium or plastic/GRP

Our water tank rusted out. Replaced with two plastimo flexible tanks which lasted well.

I can't see what else it could be. The water has a yellow tint and there are small dark specs...

Could put filters on the outlet water line but they will only block up quickly.
Best to sort out the tank. If it is steel replace or if stainless steel take out and thoroughly clean. I'm not keen on the plastic bag type tanks, I've never had on but everyone I've known who had one, the water tasted funny and they used bottled water for drinking.
