As you can see, my anchor has become very rusty. Is it salvageable or should I just bin it and get another one. I'm trying to use as many bits as I can to save money, but would this be a false, and possibly dangerous, economy?

And please, I only want to know if it would be possible to fix it. I dont need any advice (yet) on what to replace it with :)View attachment 31531

Doesn't look to me like it's rusty enough to affect strength to any significant degree, although if I had it in my hands I'd be taking a closer look at the joint. So if you're on a budget, give it a good wire brushing (preferably with a power tool) and slap on some paint (preferably zinc-rich).

To help with the OP's query perhaps a little more, there is an excellent easy-to-use product which renews the 'galvanised' zinc coating. It is called "ZINGUARD' and seems to be attracting positive comment from all sorts of users.... http://tinyurl.com/cwtweau

M G Duff's technical guru is one Rick Simpson aka 'Doctor Z'. He knows his stuff..... However, at the current price of a spray can, one could almost replace the anchor with something better.

If you trust your anchor and you know it can hold your boat well, then a coat of metal paint will be adequate for a couple of years. Personally, I would replace it, plenty of good cheap anchors about.
