Don't know who put the rust stain on my boat while I put her on land for antifoul. Anyway, she has an area - one square feet stained on the port side (Fibre Glass). Could you let me know what is the efficient way to remove it? I tried both bleach and polish that don't works at all. And, it was almost one week from now. Thanks for any comment in advance.

The commonly used chemical for removing rust stains is oxalic acid (careful ! it's a poison). You'll probably be able to find it at a chemist's. There are of course many commercial products that have it as the active agent. You mix it with water, brush it on the surface, wait five minutes and rinse abundantly

Depending a little where you are, you may be able to buy hydrochloric acid. In Holland we can buy it in almost any DIY shop (although we can't buy Milton!) but it is not so readily available everywhere. It won't harm the GRP in the slightest. Dilute HCl is also known as Muriatic acid.

In my first job in a lab, many years ago, we used to do hundreds of emulsion water contents every week, using glassware with water cooled condensers. Because the water supply came through steel pipes the condensers would rust up internally after a couple of days' use. It was one of the favourite tasks, usually on a Friday afternoon, to disconnect the water supply, substituting a vacuum pump, and draw hydrochloric acid through the bank of condensers. The rust would disappear as if by magic!
