Rust spots on my deck

The product required to remove rust in Spain is IMO Agua Fuerte, obtainable in the larger supermarkets and ferreterias. Use with waterproof gloves. wipe it on wash it off after a few minutes no hard rubbing required, also ideal for removing the brown stain just above the antifouling line we get in the Med on light coloured hulls.

Y10 is good.It does go after time.Boat next to where I moor had a major grinding session a few years ago which covered my boat,it all went of its own accord eventually.
That was until we were out for our antifoul recently, bloke next door was using one of those disc grinders to remove gel coat,it must have had metal somewhere in the abrasive and hey presto, back to square one.

Is'nt agua fuerte [fire water] just hydrocloric acid?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes.

The trouble with rust spots caused by angle grinding is that if the little particles are still hot when they land on the deck they melt their way into the surface. Then, although the stain that appears around them can easily be removed with an oxalic acid based product or even hydrochloric acid, they remain and the stains continue to reappear.

marinas and yards should order owners to cover there boats when this is done so they dont do any damage to neighbours, I would go nuts personally

Last time it happened to me I bought a product called "Wipeout". It works a treat but takes any polish off too. Its a bit like Ajax and you sprinkle it on and let it do its stuff.

It's a bit like getting spells in fingers. You first have to get the spell out. Then get rid of it or it will just infect some where else. So a poky thing and tweesers would be good. Other than that, follow the advice above, it will disapear eventually when rusted away.
