Got rust marks on the deck at the base of the pulpit. GRP non-slip, Tried jif and elbow grease – no luck. Got any tips?

There is a chap in my marina running a system called G R Pro-clean which is some a system that (for no doubt a hefty fee) will clean the deck of all rust and marks without abrasion or damage to fittings. Any experiences? I think the price is a bit steep so appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

I once cleaned our GRP-decks of rust-stains using a bleach for delicate fabrics. In Holland it is called Echfa-wit. It is a small bottle with a fine whitish powder. Chemically seen, the stuff must be a reductor (opposite of oxidant). Must be available in your parts, but wouldn't know brand names. Cheapy.

good luck

Oxalic acid. Available cheaply from all good chemists.
Alternatively as mentioned previously Y10 Jelly or I use 'White-Out' both available from chandlers everywhere.

In this months PBO, page 152, there is an article by Andrew Simpson, Good Gear Guide -extolling the virtues of a rust remover.

He reckons it is the best thing on the market. ".... a blessed concoction if ever there was one".

But you will have to go out and buy the mag, to find out more!! Or subscribe, as I have done.

Get one of those little green pan scrub thingies. Ask the wife. Cost about two shillings and six pence for a packet full. There made of plastic so dont scratch. I must have saved a kings ransom on exotic cleaning fluids since trying these.

How the hell does plastic scratch stainless steal?
My mate is an expert tool maker. He used a two pence piece in the mole grips to clean my cooker. (all the black stuff from making egg butties in the middle of the night). Its briliant and no scratches cos its softer than SS.
