Rust converter - Vactan - anybody recommend?

I need to treat my keel with a rust converter before keel primer and antifoul. Kurust only comes in 250ml at a price. I have come across Vactan - has anybody used it? Says it is recommended by Dutch Barge Association.

I have recently done my Iron Keel with a Product called Fertan

Avaliable from Good Chandlers It worked very well and is simple to apply. I have painted over it then with Keel primer and no sign of Rust comming through. You do need to leve is for a period of Time before painting over for the Acid Conversion process to work but results look promising

Most "rust converters" are a phosphoric acid preparation, and make the rust turn black into an insoluble phosphate. You might get bigger quantities of Kurust at either an engineers merchant or possibly a car finishing products seller at rather less cost than a swindlery.. used to pinch phosphoric acid from the labs before H&S stopped it

Sounds similar to Fertan which is some sort of sythesised (sp?) tannic acid product. Tannic acid is apparently found in timber such as Oak which is why the old shipwrights kept their tools in a box filled with Oak chippings.

I have used Fertan and it is as easy to use a creosoting a fence..bit of a splash it on product but it really works very well.

On my iron keel I give it a quick sand down each year and a quick coat of fertan before antifouling...works for me!
