Rust as antifouling?

Every spring I have to treat rusty bits on my keels before antifouling. If I carelessly missed a rusty bit would weed grow thereon?

All weed needs is a little something to get a grip on. Rust is just the sort of thing it needs. You'll find the weed thicker there than anywhere else on the boat!

Yes a rusty keel is an excellent bed for an octopuss's garden.

Get em blasted, epoxy painted , and your done. Unless you keep going aground on the rough.
