Russell Crowe/Patrick O\'Brien

Saw in PBO there's a film out in November. I've read about 14 books in the series and knew a film had to come eventually.

Should be a gripping film. Think I might practise jumping off the washing line onto the 'flaty with a wooden sword at the weekend (inbetween tinkering with the bl**dy outboard).

Re: Russell Crowe/Patrick O\'Brien

Somehow, try as I might, I can't see Russell Crowe as Jack Aubrey.

O\'Brian

There's a woman called O'Brien that writes romantic novels. On our local library shelf I kept finding the O'Brian books in the wrong place. Had to point out that A comes before E.

I agree: I can't imagine him playing Bach on a violin, but I can imagine him smashing it over someones' head!

Thing is, I'm not sure who would better look like Jack A: tall and stocky, blond pigtail, sometimes swashbuckling sometimes sensitive, formal and gruff but good humoured. Preferably without a kiwi accent! No current actor springs to mind.

Re: O\'Brian

Oops- not the first time I couldn't recall the correct spelling.

I wondered why some of the books had lots of teary people rushing into each others arms, and no boats!

As for the bookshop error- you surely can't expect the staff to be literate!

Re: Boris Johnson MP?

Excellent idea! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Could turn into a bit of an Ealing comedy! (Charles Hawtrey as Stephen Maturin?)
