We had a lovely afternoon but an envious one at Runnymede recreation grounds. Watching the boats go by in the glorious weather knowing that my new to me boat will not be ready for another few weeks.
Did not seem very busy just a few boats every 15-20 mins. Which was just as well as there was not a lock keeper at Bell Weir.
Roll on the two weeks.

We went through Bell Weir at 1430 and no lockie. We worked the lock for those going up and handed over nicely to those going down. There was a good crowd at Runnymede and we pottered up to Old Windsor Wier before turning back to respond to a call to The Swan ;)

No lockie at 1700. entered the lock with Nkwazi and had some nice banter. Some NBs were waiting on the Staines side wanting to come up... methinks they should have manned the gates as we did for people on our own run up, letting us look after our boats.

Perhaps this is what we will need to expect this year and people need to learn how to work their part of the cycle.

Edit: also encountered some beligerent cyclists at both the lock and The Swan. Something about a dodgy leg...

I heard someone yelling at a boat like yours; appeared to be tacking out of the lock? I wondered why a motorboat would need to do that? Maybe a malfunctioning bow thruster...?

actually I'll shut up. I can't win this one :)

Getting out of a lock on bowthruster power only is an art
